AboutMe__

I started writing in elementary school. My collection of $1 composition notebooks continuously needed replacing as I filled them to the brim with stories of rascally children and misunderstood superzeroes. I was a timid kid in a small Catholic school who shuddered at the thought of vocalizing my ideas. So, instead I scribbled down my prepubescent woes.

It wasn’t until I stumbled into The Shield’soffice in college that I discovered where my abilities would be most useful. Quickly, I jumped into anything and everything the student-run publication lobbed my way despite my journalistic cluelessness. Some may call me a masochist, but I crave the immersive environment that internships provide because I am a hands-on learner. The classroom is a great setting for dissecting the basics of journalism, but I know the best way for continuous growth is with on-the-job experience.

A speedy adapter, I became The Shield’s features editor after only one semester. Then a year after that I bounced over to news and now I run the organization. Somewhere amid the mayhem I also led the weekly newspaper’s first venture into magazine production with a 48-page commemorative publication for our university. I not only write news, features, sports, opinions and investigations, but I also do my own news videos (including live stand-ups and alternative storytelling videography), photography, sound design and voiceovers. An avid artist, I have also dabble in graphic design and am knowledgeable at InDesign.
